Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has lauded members of the editorial board of Pen-pushing Media, an online news platform, for upholding the ethics and tenets of journalism through professional means of disseminating information to the populace.
Oluomo gave the commendation, while playing host to the editorial board members, led by Mrs. Funke Fadugba, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He explained that the arrays of professionals that contribute to the medium’s news content through their wealth of experience and expertise would help in sanitizing the media space, thereby curtailing the spread of fake news in the society.
The Speaker assured the editorial team and the entire populace in the State of meaningful engagements by the leadership of the Assembly, reiterating that the 9th Legislature remained committed to engaging members of the public in all its legislative duties, with a view to bringing more democratic dividends to the people, in collaboration with the other arms of government.
Earlier in her remarks, Mrs. Fadugba, in company of the Penpushing Coordinator, Mr. Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji and a former Director of the National Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Eddy Aina, commended the Assembly for its laudable achievements within a short time of its inauguration, expressing optimism that it would sustain the tempo through credible representation and enactment of people-oriented legislations that would bring more economic prosperity to the State.
The former Lagos NUJ Chairman, who decried the high spate of fake news in the society, remarked that the platform which paraded scholars, top traditions rulers and revered personalities in the society had upheld objectivity, fairness and credibility in setting agenda through news contents to shape public opinion.
She lauded Governor Abiodun for the pronouncement of 50 percent consideration to women in political participation to promote gender balance, which she noted was in response to the Assembly’s resolution on 35 percent to women and 10 percent to youth, not leaving behind, people with special needs, imploring the Assembly not to sacrifice merit while implementing the pronouncement.
