Ogun Govt Unites NURTW, RTEAN

The Ogun State Government has settled the discord between the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the State, to promote harmonious relationship between the unions.

The Chairman, NURTW, Isale-Oko branch, Sagamu, Comrade Samusideen Agbaje disclosed this during an interview with newsmen at his Office in Isale-Oko, Sagamu, stressing that, government under the leadership of Prince Abiodun has succeeded in resolving the issues of disagreements between the bodies.

“There is no more rancour or fracas among the transport Unions throughout the State. The government action under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun has made us stronger and united. All members of the unions are working in unison, peace and harmony”, Agbaje said.

He added that the interest of transport workers and that of passengers are now better protected, adding that, apart from making commercial cars and buses available at affordable fare, there was a synergy that ensured that members adhere strictly to rules and regulations guiding driving on Nigerian roads.

“We have officers who report misconduct of members of the Unions and anyone caught fomenting trouble or extorting passengers will face the full wrath of the law. I am also bold to state that within Isale-Oko branch, Sagamu we have put an end to the issues of drivers drinking before driving”, he said.

Agbaje also said in support of government efforts in strengthening the transport unions, the State Council of the NURTW had been organizing quarterly seminars for Chairmen and members, to educate motorists on safety tips and how to maintain garages, as well as interact with everyone who makes use of the garage.

While pledging the Union’s continued support to the current administration in the State, the Isale-Oko branch NURTW leader lauded government for its inclusive nature of ensuring that road constructions being executed were not limited to a particular area of the State.
