Science Teachers Charged To Embrace New Technologies

Science Teachers in Ogun State have been charged to collaborate with individuals, academic institutions and corporate bodies on intensive training and retraining, as technology evolves and there was no better time to kick-start the process.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Mr. Olu. Ola Aikulola, gave the charge while declaring open the Year 2019 Conference of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Ogun State Branch, held at Lisabi Grammar School Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, with the theme, ‘’Stem Education: Curricular Compass for Science Teachers Pedagogy in the 21st Century Classroom Practices’’.

Aikulola said, “the era of garbage-in and garbage-out kind of education is fast waning”, therefore, education should be a broadening of mental horizons and boost student’s imaginative aptitude, such that will move them to explore and investigate.

While thanking the leadership and members of STAN for organizing the conference, he urged them to ensure that teaching is focused, intentional, purposeful and learner-entered.

Earlier, the State Chairman of STAN, Dr. Abayomi Onanuga said the essence of the conference was to encourage interactive learning and personal development amongst its members, adding that the Association would always place priority on approaches that would promote quality teaching and learning, where students stand shoulder high among their counterpart in the State.

The conference had on display, various science projects by participants and their students.
