Power Distribution Network: Let’s Improve technical Capacity and Collaboration – Taiwo Adeolu

Engineers have been admonished to improve on their technical capacity and collaboration, enforce technical code, standards and regulations for Power distribution Network.
This was said by Engr. Adeoluwa Taiwo of Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA)  during March 2021 online technical  session of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) Abeokuta Chapter titled “Power Distribution Network”.
During his presentation, Adeoluwa highlighted some of the challenges of Power distribution Network as Aged distribution Network, Vandalisation of distribution lines, Non – Conformity with the relevant codes, standards and regulations, Poor City and town planing, Inadequate technical capacity, technical losses because of over stretched network (33,11, & 0.4KV lines) and Lack of adequate technical collaboration among stakeholders.
During the well – attended online technical session, technical collaboration and interface among stakeholders were encouraged, upgrading of distribution networks in terms of distribution lines and transformers were advised, as well as building of more injection substation to increase power reliability and sustainability. In addition, enforcement of technical code, standards and regulations and improved technical capacity were some of the way forward to minimize the challenges face by the Power distribution Network.
In their separate remarks, NSE Past Vice President, Engr. Joseph Akinteye, FNSE, Past NIEEE National Chairman, Engr. Adekunle Sunday Makinde, FNSE, NIEEE Akure Chairman, Engr. Femi Aiyekomilogbon and Pioneer  NIEEE Abeokuta Chairman, Engr. Dele Oladipo, FNIEEE commended the NIEEE Abeokuta for organising the online session and the Guest Speaker for an insightful presentation.
In his welcome address, the Abeokuta Chairman of NIEEE, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu said Abeokuta Chapter has been giving utmost priority to the capacity development of her members, reason for the decision to enrich the knowledge of her members on Power Distribution Network.
Earlier before the technical session, the Chapter held her statutory physical monthly general meeting where pressing professional issues where discussed among her members.
