Ogun Tescom Charges Principals On Quality Leadership

The Chairman, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Chief (Mrs.) Olabosipo Ogunsan has urged Principals in Public Secondary Schools to provide quality leadership, be steadfast and dedicated to duties so as to contribute to the success of the qualitative and affordable education programme of the current administration in the State.

Speaking at the induction of the new principals into All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS and In-House Training organised at sharpening their skills held at Yewa College, Ilaro, Ogun State.

Mrs. Ogunsan, represented by Commissioner I in the Commission, Otunba Timothy Adebowale, advised them to lead by example as they were now role models to teaching, non-teaching staff and students of their schools, calling on them to collaborate with the Commission to facilitate programmes that would enrich the teaching profession.

While declaring the event open, Ogunsan who spoke on the theme” Data Competency: Implications on Principals as Administrator,’’ said that Principals needed to read wider and be ICT compliant  in order to be a good administrator, adding that they should promote efficiency to build a strong structure needed for day to day running of the schools.

She urged them to stand against all forms of indiscipline and be accountable on everything under their care, charging them to be responsible and responsive to all policies and programmes of government.

“Being a principal, you must be accountable on everything within your care. I also want to implore you to be conversant with all circular letters that may be issued by the Teaching Service Commission on various issues such as school administration, promotion, staff supervision and financial transactions etc,’’ she said.

Earlier in his welcome address, President of ANCOPSS, Cheif Olatunji Ogundele, expressed gratitude to the State Government for the gesture, noting that the training would further develop effective administration for better output in students, teaching and non teaching staff alike.

He said that ANCOPSS ‘’is not a trade union, but a pressure group made up of well trained, seasoned and experienced Principals’’, advising Principals to avoid collection of illegal fees from students.

Presenting papers at the workshop were Mr Ogun Dauda of Iko High School, Ipokia, who spoke on ‘’Principals as an Agent of Change,  Mr Yomi Sanya, Director, Planning, Research & Statistics of TESCOM, delivered a paper on ‘’Data Compilation Competency: Implication on the Principals As An Administrator,’’ while Mr. Femi Ogundimu, Director of Administration and Supplies, dealt on ‘’Public Service Rules and Work Ethics as they affect the School Administrators.’’
