Ogun to strengthen routine Immunization

    As part of efforts to strengthen routine immunization and curb childhood killer diseases, the Ogun State Government is set to introduce two new vaccines in the first quarter of the year 2019.

          The Executive Secretary,  State Primary Health Care Development Board,  Dr. Elijah Ogunsola stated this in his presentation at the 2019 Treasury Board Meeting, held at the Conference Hall, Oba’s Complex, Oke Mosan,  Abeokuta, saying that the Rota Virus and 2nd dose of Measles Vaccines for children of age 18 months would be added to the routine immunization.

          “Because the State is doing very well in its routine immunization programmes and campaign, there is going to be introduction of new vaccines, the vaccines are Rota and 2nd dose of Measles and we are happy that the State government is making available in the budget provisions to make sure that those vaccines are kept potent for the children” he said.

          Ogunsola noted that the present administration has made necessary provisions in the next fiscal year to ensure that vaccines were kept potent for children, with the addition of new Cold Chain Stores across the State.

          He added that this move would further ensure that the State routine immunization was improved upon for total eradication of child mortality in the State.

In his remark, the State Commissioner for Health Dr. Babatunde Ipaye noted that the State government has done well in the provision of health physical infrastructure, saying, according to UNICEF Broadcasting Survey in Nigeria on under five mortality, Ogun State is 66 percent free out of the national 120 percent average.

          He said this was achieved as a result of the State’s commitment to the maternal newborn child health, maintaining that, there was no case of polio in the State.
