Jettison Party Politics – Gov. Abiodun urges Opposition Lawmakers.

Opposition members in the Ogun State House of Assembly have been enjoined to jettison party politics and join hands with the present administration to take the State to the next level.

Governor Abiodun made the call when he received the entire State lawmakers, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, stating that election was over and it was time to face the business of providing purposeful leadership that would impact positively on the lives of the people.

“I want you to count yourselves lucky to be elected into the House, as there were more qualified people outside who could represent our people. A lot is expected from us. Please let us work together to serve them well”, he said.

While reeling out his plans, which include; repositioning the heath, education and agricultural sectors, the State’s helmsman informed the Assembly members of his administration’s resolve to rehabilitate rural and township roads, as well as open new industrial hubs and provide necessary facilities in the existing ones.

He described the condition of the State’s security as embarrassing, noting that the intolerance, hostility and violence that engulfed the State in the last two months shouldn’t be allowed to continue in the overall interest of all.

Prince Abiodun said, government would fortify security in the State by looking into the law that established the State Security Trust Fund, with a view to amend it, if necessary, to make it meet set objectives.

“No investor will go to a place where there is kidnapping, robbery, thuggery and other forms of violence. We want to make our State safe for people to come and do business. When investors come, they will employ our people, they will pay taxes which will be used to develop our State”, he said.

He pledged to run an inclusive government that would embrace all shades of opinions, admonishing the House members to extend hands of fellowship to their opponents in the last elections, to make them feel a sense of belonging.

He congratulated them for conducting a rancour free election, to choose their principal Officers, noting that it had demonstrated that they could resolve issues in a peaceful and democratic manner.

In his remark, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, pledged harmonious relationship with the executive, saying that the Honourables have resolved to support the Governor to achieve his vision for the State.

“We came to pay the Governor a courtesy call and to hear the programmes he has for the people of our State. He has told us and they are good programmes. The Ninth Assembly is a participatory one, we will support the Governor by enacting People’s oriented laws for the good of our State”, the Speaker submitted.
