We’ll Maintain Standard In Primary Schools- SUBEB Boss

Ogun State government says it will leave no stone unturned at ensuring that only the best teachers are engaged to teach in its primary schools to maintain the existing standard in the basic education sub-sector.

The Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Olatunde Okewole, stated this during a screening test for applicants of the 2017 Federal Teachers’ Scheme, held at Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Okewole said as a foundation which other educational structure are built upon, the basic education needed to be staffed with qualified personnel to impart the right knowledge on the children.

Commenting on the conduct of the screening test, the SUBEB boss noted that it was to assess the competent of the 500 successful applicants in order to engage the best for basic education in the State.

He said the Federal Teachers’ Scheme (FTS), was a two-year intervention programme initiated by the Federal government to assist States in recruiting the manpower needed for the teaching profession, adding that it was also a stop-gap policy to facilitate employment opportunities for the unemployed in the country.

Okewole urged former (FTS) teachers whose contract had expired, to be calm and conduct themselves in an orderly manner, while agitating for their absorption into the State service, assuring that government would look into their case.

One of the applicants, Mr. Adeyemi Akinwunmi, expressed gratitude to the State and Federal governments for the initiative, appealing for permanent employment.
