Three Storey Building Collapses in Ita Faji Lagos Island

A three-storeyed building, Wednesday morning collapsed at Mercy Street, Ita-Faaji area of the Lagos Island, leaving many school pupils on the topmost floor feared dead.

The cause of the sad incident which occurred at 10:00 am, according to an eye witness, could not be ascertained but informed that no fewer than 10 pupils feared dead had been evacuated from the rubbles.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr Kehinde Adebayo, has confirmed the building collapse, saying the emergency officials were already on the ground.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has deployed heavy and light rescue equipment for rescue operations at the scene of the collapsed building in Lagos Island.

Mr Adebayo Kehinde at the Public Affairs Unit of LASEMA, Lagos, disclosing this while giving a situation report on the collapsed building on Mercy Street, Ita-Faaji Lagos Island, on Wednesday, said that many victims have been rescued alive.

LASEMA said in the release: “The incident occurred at about 10.30 am today regarding a three-story building that collapsed at the above address.ALSO READ M

“The search and rescue operation is presently ongoing with so many victims rescued alive from the collapsed building through combined efforts of LASEMA and other emergency responders such as the Lagos State Ambulance Service, Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Federal Fire Service.

“Others include National Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Police Force, Rapid Response Squad, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Nigeria Red Cross Society, Lagos State Neighborhood and Safety Corps.

“The exercise is being coordinated by the General Manager Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu with the deployment of heavy and light rescue equipment from LASEMA and its stakeholders.”
