OOUTH generates N294m in 8 months, says CMD
The Chief Medical Director (CMD),University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Prof. Alfred Jaiyesimi, said on Monday that the hospital generated about N294 million between January and August.
Jaiyesimi disclosed this during an oversight visit by the State House of Assembly Committee on Health to the hospital in Sagamu.
According to him, the amount represents 23 per cent increase in the hospital’s internally generated revenue when compared to the figure of 2016 during the period.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a breakdown shows that the hospital generated about N288 million as earnings from medical services, N2 million from administration fees or charges and N277, 387 as contractor registration fees.
About N218,000 was realised as earnings from the use of its ambulance services and N687,000 as rent on government quarters.
Jaiyesimi said the hospital was also involved in training of medical students as well as interns from the Physiotherapy, Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Science departments.
He stressed the need to improve on the hospital’s existing structures, equipment and personnel.
“We need to purchase modern medical equipment in virtually all areas of the teaching hospital. There is also a need for six functional theatres.
“As a result, additional anaesthetic machines, ventilators and personnel will be required to cope with the volume of ever-increasing surgical services of the teaching hospital, including Obstetrics and Trauma emergencies.
“The building accommodating the accident and emergency unit is inadequate for the volume of services and we need to expand and equip the centre to provide excellent medical care for the citizenry.
“We also need training schools such as Post-Basic Nursing School, Medical Records to complete the activities of the teaching hospital,’’ the chief medical director said.
The House Committee Chairman, Mr Akinpelu Aina, commended the OOUTH management for improving on its IGR, saying the hospital’s emergency unit also deserved commendation for efficient services.
Aina urged the teaching hospital to continue to provide qualitative services to the people, promising “the house of assembly will continue to make laws that will improve the hospital’s status.” (NAN)
