Ojude-Oba : Commissioner Urges FG To Promote Cultural Festivals To Boost Tourism

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Ogun, Mr Dayo Adeneye, has urged the Federal Government to boost the tourism sector by showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

Adeneye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the Ojude-Oba Festival that “the annual event reminds our children of what we stand for”.

According to him, the Ojude-Oba Festival is one the biggest tourism platforms the government can take advantage of in promoting the rich cultural heritage of the nation.

He said that the festival was not meant to portray “our dressing alone but our culture and how we respect and pay homage to elders.

“I am very happy to see the Awujale amongst his sons and daughters; the whole of Ijebuland is here.

“You can see how the various “Regberebe” age groups are well dressed, but it’s beyond that.

“It’s all about our image, culture and way of life,” he said.

He said that Ojude Oba was just one of the few festivals in Nigeria that could showcase the cultural wealth of Nigeria to the outside world.

“A lot is on the ground to harness but there are few people who see our language and way of life as a gold mine.

“At the moment, I am committed to serving the 7.4 million people of Ogun in the capacity I have been appointed to.

“I wish relevant authorities will look deep and begin to treat what we have as valuable enough to take over the world,” he said.

Adeneye, popularly known as D1 of Kenny’s Music, added that the entertainment industry was doing a lot to showcase the country’s culture but added that more could be done.

“The industry practitioners are doing well in that sector and you know the rest of the world is coming after them already.

“I need the entertainment and media practitioners for me to be able to do my job effectively in the office I occupy,” he said.

He said that entertainers remained his first constituency and he appreciates the support they continually gave to him.
