Ogun To Create Water Supply, Energy, Electricity Boards

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has disclosed that Bureau of Water Supply, as well as Energy and Electricity Board would be created to tackle the problem of water and power supply in the State.

Governor Abiodun said this while responding to questions from the people of Ogun Central Senatorial District during the 2020 Budget Town Hall meeting held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, saying the two Agencies would be headed by people with track record in those fields.

He noted that the rationale behind the establishment of the two agencies was to ensure provision of adequate power and water supply to the proposed new towns and industrial parks in the three Senatorial Districts across the State, stating that industrialization could not be achieved without the availability of these basic amenities.

“We are creating a Bureau of Water Supply and also the Energy and Electricity Board because we cannot be planning to be a state or city if we do not have adequate power and water supply. These agencies would be headed by those with track records in these areas.

‘’In the area of electricity, we are currently conducting power audit in all the new towns across the State, as well as creation of industrial parks in the three Senatorial Districts, which will have basic amenities such as power, water and good drainages”, he said.

The Governor said judging from the people’s request at the meetings, good road network was the consensus, adding that government was currently experimenting on a new technology to construct rural roads in the State.

While lauding the people for their sincere contributions and observations, Prince Abiodun said the positive feedback from the people of Ogun East and West Senatorial Districts was an indication that there was no better way to encourage participatory democracy than the civil engagement of the people.

He noted that people’s involvement on how their common wealth should be used, had validated his position that participation strengthens democracy and inclusiveness, observing that the informative and productive ideas submitted could be a way towards a realistic people-oriented budgeting process.

In his opening remark, the Consultant to the Governor on Budget and Planning, Mr. Ola Olu Olabimtan, said since good government entails prudent management of scarce resources, government would utilise every available resource for the benefit of the people.

Also speaking, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, stressed the need for government to embark on massive rehabilitation of township and rural roads to ease movement of people, goods and services.

The Monarch called the attention of government to deplorable state of hospitals and schools, as well as the resuscitation of the Eweje Farm Settlement at Odeda, saying this would improve the well-being and economic base of the people of the District.
