Ogun Police Press Release

The attention of Ogun state Police Command has been drawn to a video circulating on social media, which shows a man purportedly shot dead  at an unnamed spot along Ijebu ode/Ibadan road in Ogun state by suspected herdsmen.

The command hereby wishes to state categorically that no incident like that happened in any part of the state.

This rebuttal has become necessary   in order to allay the fears  of the general public, especially those plying Ijebu ode/Ibadan road.

The video is nothing but a deliberate wicked attempt by   the the evil-minded persons behind it to cause panic in the minds of the people, by deliberately promoting inter-ethnic hatred and discord online, for reasons best known to them.

On sighting the video, the commissioner of police CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, psc,  directed the three area Commanders  and all the DPOs in Shagamu, Ijebu ode and Ogbere to immediately carry out joint  fact-finding patrol of the Ijebu Ode- Benin expressway up to the ogun State boundary with Ondo state.  Nothing of such was noticed anywhere along the road, just as no such incident was reported either directly by the victims or received through credible information in any of the police stations and formations in the state. Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard the  video and go about their lawful businesses without any  fear of intimidation, molestation  or harassment. The persons responsible for the mischievous video will  definitely be fished out.

The Command once again,  reassures the good people of Ogun State of their safety and security at all times. They should however,  continue to have confidence in all  the security agencies,  and cooperate  by availing them useful information that will enhance their performances, and  help to  fish out mischief markers  who are using social media  both as  vehicle and hideout to cause tension and panic  in the state.
