OGSG Vows to Emulate Virtues of Late MKO
As Nigeria officially observe June 12 as ‘Democracy Day’, after experiencing an unbroken democratic process across ethnic and religious divides, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured that his administration would consolidate on the legacies and virtues of the late MKO Abiola by ensuring good governance at all times.
The Governor gave this assurance during his visit to the Abiola Family House at Oja -Agbo, Gbagura, Abeokuta, in commemoration of Democracy Day Celebration, saying as politicians, part of their responsibilities is to continue the good work that late Chief MKO Abiola pledged to do in the Country
Abiodun who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako- Oyedele noted that, the celebration was the actualization of the struggle of everyone, including those who voted in 1993 annulled election and the people who still continued the struggle.
“I congratulate you all that our efforts had been rewarded by the confirmation of June 12 as democracy day by the Federal Government. Our mantra is good governance, our government would be fair, just and equitable and this is how we intend to propagate the work of late Chief MKO Abiola’’, the Governor stated.
He therefore implored citizens of the State to be responsible, vote right at elections and obey the laws at all times, so as to ensure synergy between the government and the governed, noting that at the end, Ogun would retain its top position among comity of States .
Earlier in his welcome charge, the Chief Imam of Oojo Gbagura, Alhaji Ahmed Mahmud, prayed that the State would witness happiness, comfort and peace during the present administration.
He recalled that late MKO Abiola was voted for by all and sundry because of his personality, irrespective of tribe and religious beliefs, adding that the lessons of June 12 remains indelible in the history of the Country.
Also recounting his experience during the annulled June 12, 1993 election, a former student union leader and member of Campaign for Democracy, Comrade Ayodele Adebowale said many students were shot and injured during the struggle, urging that the symbol of greatness and unity that late MKO Abiola represented, must not be forgotten
