OGSG To Ban Trucks Over 30 Tonnes From Roads

The Ogun State Government says it will soon ban movement of trucks weighing over 30 tonnes of goods from plying roads across the State as part of measures at maintaining its standard roads.

The State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru made this known in an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta.

Ashiru said most undulations on the roads were caused by the over loaded trucks and articulated vehicles, saying that the present administration had taken steps at addressing the challenges by placing  ban on trucks with over 30 tonnes of goods across the State.

He assured that the government would not fold its arms and unduly heavy trucks jeopardise its efforts and determination at providing standard infrastructure for its citizenry, explaining that warning had been issued to most of the companies operating in the State to comply with the new road regulations.

The Commissioner lamented that roads with 15 years life span suddenly became deplorable within a year by the activities of trucks carrying tonnes of loads beyond the capacity of the roads, maintaining that the step had become inevitable to curtail the anomaly.

‘’If you fix a road now you should be looking at the next 10 to 15 years. But what we have seen in the State is that those roads fixed within a year are now in deplorable state. I beg the Cement and steel industries to look at how they can meet the policy.’’ he said.
