OGSG Thumbs Up Implementation Of Home Grown School Feeding Programme

Ogun State government has expressed satisfaction with the level of implementation of the Home Grown School Feeding Programme in the State.

The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, who is also the Focal Person, Social Intervention Programmes (SIPS), Barr. Leke Adewolu, made this known while delivering a speech at the launch of Transparency and Accountability Project of the Centre for Women’s Health and Information held in Abeokuta.

The Commissioner said the programme has achieved its objectives, which was to increase and retain the number of  pupils in public primary schools.

‘’Barely 15 months after the commencement of feeding programme in the State, there has been a great increase in enrolment of pupils in public primary schools. This is due largely to the movement of pupils from private schools to public schools to enable them benefit from school meals as this has also improved pupils retention in Schools, ’’he said.

Adewolu, added that the Home Grown School Feeding Programme, which is one of the Social Intervention Programme initiatives of the Federal government, was well implemented in Ogun State, saying “with daily monitoring and supervision across our schools, it has ensured credible school feeding system that provides quality service delivery by all vendors”.

Also speaking, the Programme Manager, Ogun Meals, Mrs. Tinuola Shopeju, stressed the need for all stakeholders to work as a team to sustain the successes recorded so far, for the benefit of the pupils.

‘’We need to work together with the government for the actualisation of its goals in the State. Everybody is involved, everybody has a part to play, they are our children and that makes us totally involved,’’ Shopeju said.

The Programme Coordinator, Centre for Women’s Health and Information, Mrs. Adebanke Akinrinmisi, applauded the State government for the steps taken towards the success of the programme, as she equally implored the Government to do more.

‘’The vendors made us to understand that they are well paid as at when due and we have also noticed effective use of resources in the State which is highly commendable,’’ she submitted.
