Nigerian government set to tackle incessant kidnapping, ritual killings in Nigeria- Minister

The Nigerian Government said it has taken some proactive measures to address the trend of ritual killings and kidnapping among other vices in the country, which in recent known to be prevalent among youths

Penpushing reports that, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammad made this known on Saturday while speaking on the theme, ‘Youth Inclusiveness: An Emerging Reality in the Socio Economic Development of Egbaland”, during the 35th Lisabi Festival held at Alake playing ground in Abeokuta, adding that plans are on to initiate behavioural change programmes targeted at youths in a bid to address these problems.

The Minister represented by Funmi Wakama, General Manager, Nigerian Television Authority(NTA),Abeokuta admitted that the topic was  timely and thought-provoking, as youths remain the active generation and the need to address the spate of child delinquencies is crucial.

“Let me inform this gathering that the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, under my watch, has taken some proactive measures to address the trend of ritual killings and kidnapping among other vices in the country. Plans are on to initiate behavioural change programmes targeted at youths in a bid to address these problems”, Mohammed said

Penpushing further reports that, he  disclosed that the government has directed the National Film and Video Censors Board(NFVCB),  to take the issue of ritual killings seriously while censoring and classifying films and videos

“I am happy to inform you that content providers are already working on it. The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has therefore been directed to take the issue of ritual killings seriously while censoring and classifying films and videos”, he stated.

The Minister said the invitation to deliver lecture at the ceremony no doubt, has also provided the opportunity for him to experience the goodwill and hospitality of the Egba people,just as he recalled and  acknowledged the heroic exploits of the legendary Lisabi Agbongbo Akala in securing freedom for the Egbas from slavery and oppression by the Oloyo.

Penpushing also reports that, Mohammed noted that this victory depicts Lisabi’s strength, determination and commitment, stressing that the essence of this annual Festival has been to foster global awareness of the social, cultural and political values inherent in it, as well as facilitate development of Egbaland, Ogun State and Nigeria in general

The Minister commended Ogun State government for the attention given to Olumo rock as a tourist attraction, pointing out that it is a known fact that the state is endowed with so many beautiful and breathtaking sceneries, and therefore encouraged the State government to continue to explore more of such opportunities
