Mrs Amosun Commends Progressive Obas Forum

The Wife of the Governor of Ogun State and founder, UPLIFT Development Foundation, Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunso Amosun has lauded traditional rulers in the state for synergising with government to ensure development and sustainability of democracy in the state and Nigeria by extension.

Mrs. Amosun gave this commendation during the Inauguration of the Progressive Obas Forum (Ogun Central) for Good Governance beyond 2019, held at the Providence Hotel, Abeokuta, noting that the establishment of the forum will further strengthen the relationship between the monarchs and the government.

She maintained that traditional rulers are custodian of cultural heritage and should not relent in their efforts to promote and protect it, urging them to continue to support the rebuilding mission of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration, so as to continue witnessing more developmental projects in the state.

The Founder of UPLIFT Development Foundation appreciated and thanked the Ogun central traditional rulers for the honour bestowed on her, as the Grand Patroness of the forum, saying the initiative to unite and ensure continuity of good governance in the state was a welcome development, pledging her support for the forum.

Welcoming guests to the occasion, the Chairman of the Forum, Oba Abdul Fatai Akamo, the Olu of Itori, explained that the objective of the Forum was to ensure continuity of good governance in the state and by extension the acceptance and election of a committed successor.

He added that the relegation of traditional institution in the country contributed to the call for abolition of local government system in Nigeria, expressing the desire of the forum to champion the crusade for continuity of good governance in the state beyond 2019.

In his remark, Chairman of the State Council of Obas, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo said, the erroneous belief that traditional institution has no role in modern democratic governance and development was baseless and misleading, encouraging the people of the state to continue to support government to take the state to a higher level.

The monarch pledged the unalloyed support of traditional rulers, to any government in power towards delivering of good governance and ensure that dividend of democracy get across to the people, saying, they are fathers to everybody and must always seek the good of the land.

Also speaking, the Provost, College of Post Graduate Studies, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Prof. Olatunji Odedeyi, said the 5 point agenda of the State government, geared towards the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, has positioned the state as a frontline in the country.

Odedeyi said the topic of the inauguration, ‘Larger Scale of Vision and Dream as Legacy beyond 2019 till 2050’, was chosen to enable the people look beyond and begin to plan for the future, to ensure sustainability in the development and growth of the state and the country in general, charging the Obas to work together in unity of purpose for continuation of good governance.
