INDEPENDENCE: Dele Atunbi Tasks Nigerians on Patriotism
Nigerians have been urged to be more patriotic in their dealings with the Nigerian project.
A foremost contender for the Presidency of the NUJ in the forthcoming 6th triennial delegates conference holding in Abeokuta, Prince Dele Atunbi gave the advice in his independence day message to the people.
In a statement in Abeokuta, Prince Atunbi rejoiced with Nigerians and advised them to continue to contribute to the uplift of the nation.
The NUJ presidential candidate said the Nigerian project is a collective one that must be supported by all and sundry.
He advocated the need for Nigerians to maintain their stance against corruption noting that the current infrastructural deficit was due to graft.
Atunbi posited that for Nigeria to be great again, corruption must be stamped out of our public life as a nation.
The labour leader stressed the need to strengthen democratic institutions for the sustenance of democratic values.
While rejoicing with Nigerians on this occasion, Prince Atunbi also advanced the need for Nigerian government and other critical stakeholders to look into the plight of the media industry and make members of the fourth estate of the realm whose forebearers were at the forefront of the struggle for independence to live a better life through the evolution of media salary structure.
The labour leader condemned in strong terms the criminal silence of the NUJ leadership in the last 3 years over the plight of journalists in the country.
Prince Atunbi appealed to Nigerians to sustain the unity and peace currently being enjoyed by the people.
