Gov. Abiodun Advocates Women Representation in Leadership

As part of efforts at ensuring full representation and participation of women in leadership positions in the country, all State governments of the federation have been admonished to involve more women in decision making in their various states.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, gave the admonition  at the opening ceremony of the three-day 2019 National  Women’s Conference, organised by Osun Women Development Association, (OSUNWA) held in Oshogbo, the State of Osun.

The Governor,  represented by the Secretary to the State government, Mr. Adetokunbo Talabi, stated that the theme of the Conference, “Woman: Pioneer of Change for Inclusive Participation in Development” was apt and relevant with the trend in Ogun State, where the present administration had been empowering large number of women and involving them more in governance.

He stated that Ogun State was in full support of the Conference, where women would be enlightened on their roles as nation builders and empowered for maximum utilization of their built-in potentials, adding that more platforms would be created for women to participate in leadership roles.

The Governor of the State of Osun, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola in his goodwill message, commended the efforts of his wife at promoting education of the girl-child, empowerment of women, agricultural loan facilities given to women farmers and capacity building, among others.

He reiterated his continued support to all good programmes of the First Lady and the Osun women in general, noting that women’s welfare and empowerment remained key to rapid and sustainable development of any nation.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Convener, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola expressed satisfaction at the overwhelming presence and support of sister States and the Wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo.

She said the aim of the association, which comprised of wives of Osun state government officials and other women was to further strengthen the bond of unity among women, in order to achieve the development agenda for the state and also develop the capacity of the women socially and economically.

Mrs. Oyetola disclosed that commercial mini buses and tricycles would be distributed on the second day of the Conference to assist and empower the women, adding that processing plants for farm produce would also be commissioned after the Conference, to assist women farmers.

The Wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, while declaring open the conference, called for cooperation among women towards achieving the desired development.

She advised women to rise up to the challenges confronting the young ones and the nation at large, noting that women have the ability to multitask.
