Good Governnance, Panacea For Eradication Of Poverty, Corruption- Amosun
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has identified Good governance as a panacea for the eradication of poverty and corruption in Nigeria.
Amosun made this observation during the Special Ramadan Iftar Lecture, organized by the State Government, for the general public, at the Arcade Ground, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Amosun noted that corruption which has eaten deep into the nation’s fabric was one of the things that brought poverty in the land, urging all Nigerians to work towards ensuring that good governance was entrenched in the nation.
The Governor noted that no development could take place in an atmosphere of insecurity, assuring that his administration would continue to provide the needed direction till its last day in office, to ensure all round development in the State.
He therefore enjoined all to embrace unity and discourage acts that could lead to division, calling on the people to continue praying for the progress of the State and the country in general.
The guest speaker, Prof. Afiz Ayinde Oladosu, while speaking on the theme of the lecture, “Peaceful Co-existence and Conducive Atmosphere as Recipe for the Conduct of Successful 2019 General Election: The Ramadan Message’’, said, greed, selfishness, poverty and corruption amongst others, were some of the factors responsible for lack of peace in the nation.
The Islamic Scholar disclosed that, to have a conducive atmosphere and peaceful coexistence in the society, religious leaders must stop acting as businessmen and women, advising those at the helms of affairs in the nation to stop glamorising criminality.
Professor Oladosu called for more poverty alleviation programmes to eliminate suffering among the people, thereby promoting peace in the land. In his remark, the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf thumbs up the Governor for the overall development taking place in the State, saying Ogun state was moving in the right direction, therefore enjoining politicians contesting elections in 2019, not to make it a do or die affairs.
On their parts, the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi and the Olu and Paramount ruler of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, advised political gladiators to have the fear of God, adding that Ogun State was known for peace and it should be maintained at all times.
The speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi and the Head of Service, Mr. Abayomi Sobande affirmed that Ogun people are peace lovers, praying for the emergence of a religious and God fearing person, who will steer the ship of the State forward in 2019.
