Abiodun, Amosun Mourn the Passing of General Ekundayo Opaleye

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Senator Ibikunle Amosun have paid heartfelt tributes to Major General Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye (rtd), the former military governor of old Ondo State, following his passing. The news of his death has left the state and the nation in mourning.

Major General Opaleye, who served as military governor from August 1986 to 1987 during the regime of General Ibrahim Babangida, passed away on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State. His tenure as governor was marked by his dedication and service to the people of old Ondo State.

Governor Abiodun expressed his deep sorrow and described the late Opaleye as a patriotic military officer and an exemplary administrator. He acknowledged the significant contributions made by Major General Opaleye to the nation and expressed his gratitude for his service. Senator Amosun also shared his grief over the loss of Major General Opaleye, whom he hailed as an illustrious son of Owu Kingdom and a dedicated military officer. He highlighted Major General Opaleye’s selfless service in the Nigerian Army, where he undertook various military assignments in Nigeria and Africa.

Senator Amosun recalled Major General Opaleye’s unwavering commitment to the development of Owu Kingdom, Egbaland, and Ogun State. He specifically mentioned Major General Opaleye’s successful chairmanship of the planning committee for the coronation ceremony of the Olowu of Owu in 2022.

Senator Amosun extended his thoughts and prayers to Major General Opaleye’s family as they mourn his passing. He also expressed his condolences to the Olowu of Owu, the Balogun of Owu, the Owu Traditional Council of Chiefs, and the Nigerian military, all of whom have lost a valuable member. He prayed for eternal rest for Major General Opaleye and for strength for his family to bear the loss.
