Insecurity: Abiodun, Alake, Ayo Adebanjo, Gani Adams, Others To Meet Thursday;

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; Alake of Egba land, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo; pan- Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere Leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo; Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams and other prominent guests will be meeting at the South-West Security Stakeholders Conference, coming up this Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Others include Deputy Chairman of Afenifere, Oba Oladipo Olaitan; Chairman, Steering Committee of Yoruba Summit Group (YSG), Dr Olufemi Adegoke; YSG Publicity Secretary, Mogaji Gboyega Adejumo and other stakeholders.

Iba Adams, who is the convener of the Southwest Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG), organiser of the conference, disclosed this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Kehinde Aderemi, saying the meeting, which is the fourth edition by the group, was a swift response to the various security challenges in the region.

According to the Yoruba generalissimo, the group deemed the parley necessary to chart a new course, in order to review the security situation in the South-West and further seek a better approach to reduce the spate of insecurity, including, killings, and kidnappings across the region.

“In view of the prevailing security situation in the Southwest, the Southwest Security Stakeholders’ Group (SSSG) has considered it necessary to chart a new course in order to review the security situation in the Southwest and further seek a better approach to reduce the spate of insecurity, including, killings, and kidnappings across the region.

“The meeting is the fourth in the series of meetings that had been held in the last one year. Southwest Security Stakeholders Summit had been held in Lagos, Oyo and Osun states respectively and Abeokuta, Ogun State, will host the next event,” Adams stated.

The statement further disclosed that Prof. Gbenga Akingbehin from the Department of Public Law and Criminology, University of Lagos (UNILAG) will discuss the theme: “Stemming the tide of Insecurity in southwest Nigeria: A Criminology Therapy.”

The South-West Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG) comprises notable socio-cultural groups in the Southwest, including the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) Agbekoya, Hunters, among others.
