NIWE Abeokuta inaugurates New Executive Committee Members

New executives have been elected for Abeokuta Chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers (NIWE).

OgunUpdate Online News gathered that the new executive will pilot the affairs of the professional body for the next two years.

The new team which has Engr. Sakiru Onososen as Chairman assumed office Wednesday, April 21st 2021 following their official inauguration.

Other new Officers of the Chapter include Engr. Mrs Temitope Aboyeji, Vice Chairman, Engr. Bolaji Ewetuga, Programme Coordinator, Engr. Mrs. Olayemi Odunaiya, Assistant Programme Coordinator; Engr. Mrs Adedoyin Sodiya, Treasurer; Engr. Julius Ogunnoiki, Public Relations Officer, Engr. Omodele Adesanwo. ex-officio and Engr. Shittu Arowolo, Ex-officio 2.

Presenting his inaugural speech, the new Chapter Chairman of the Institution, Engr. Sakiru Onososen thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him promising to carry out his duties in the best interest of the branch, Ogun State and Nigeria in general.

Engr. Onososen stressed that his administration will uphold the unity and sanctity of the association above personal interest and called on their senior colleagues to be more committed to the affairs of the branch so as to lift it to greater heights.

While assuring that he will carry everybody along to achieve the goals of the Institution, Engr. Onososen outlined some of his agenda to include: restructuring the chapter and ensuring it attains an enviable status among other state chapters, improving on professional expertise of members through trainings, seminars, and up skilling forums and improving the interface between the chapter and the government through partnerships as well as liaising with government on assisting with the situation of water management and flooding in the state with the aim of providing a lasting solution.

Earlier in her address, National Chairman of the body, Engr. Chinyere Igwegbe, FNSE, FNIWE called for efforts from lawmakers and stakeholders geared towards reviving the water sector in Nigeria and putting an end to incessant borehole drilling which had impending damages to the environment.

Meanwhile, Engr. Olusanjo Bamgboye, FNIWE in his lecture entitled “Water supply management in ogun state: prospects, challenges and way forward”, delivered at the 1st Engr. Jimoh Adio Olawale Akinbowale memorial lecture as part of the inauguration urged political leaders not to see provision of water as a tool to get votes with no will to understand or use it for societal development.

“Water supply should be managed by those who value it most, the consuming society. If integrated eater resources management tools are effectively utilized; community based water supply management using eater users associations may provide the way forward form existing challenges.”

The event also featured the conferment of fellowship awards on deserving individuals.
