We ‘re Committed to revamping Health Care System – OGSG.

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has pledged his administration’s unwavering commitment towards revamping the Health Care System at all levels.

The Governor stated this at the flag-off ceremony of the second round of Polio Outbreak Response Campaign, organized by the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, in conjunction with development partners, held at the Ijebu–Ode Local Government Secretariat, Itooro, Ijebu-Ode.

Represented by his wife, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, he noted that, no child in the State would suffer disability or die as a result of any vaccine preventable diseases, saying the role of child healthcare in the economic growth of a nation, cannot be over emphasised.

Explaining that immunization had greatly reduced infant mortality rate among children between ages zero to five, Abiodun attributed it to the improved level of education and awareness in the society, appreciating the development partners for their technical support at improving the health sector in the State

Governor Abiodun noted that the polio Outbreak Response (OBR) kick started in April 2019, as a result of the need to improve health immunity of children between ages 0 to 59 months, against oral polio virus diseases, adding that the State had remained polio free, for the past 10 years,

While assuring of his administration’s commitment towards ensuring a minimum of one flagship Primary Health Center per ward across the State, in the first one hundred days in office, he urged mothers, parents, religious leaders, as well as community leaders to avail their children the opportunity to be vaccinated during the exercise.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Adesanya Ayinde, described immunisation as one of the potent and cost effective health intervention for the reduction of death among children, adding that health care system would become robust and more affordable under the new administration.

On his part, the Executive Secretary of the board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, urged all mothers, caregivers, as well as other stakeholders, to ensure that the polio virus was eradicated in the State.

In their separate goodwill messages, the State Coordinator, World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Sunday Abidoye, the representative, United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Mrs Florence Moloku and the representative, Rotary International, Dr. Festus Adetomiwa, pledged the maximum support of their various organizations towards achieving universal health coverage in the state, saying they would continue to provide necessary technical assistance at all times.

Earlier, Head, Local Government Administration, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Mrs. Feyisayo Ogunneye, commended the State Governor for focusing on primary healthcare, saying it was a right step in the right direction.

Responding on behalf of mothers, Mrs Adeola Ogunneye and Azeezat Abdullah, commended the State Government for making children’s health top priority, adding that they would inform others to make their wards available during the exercise.
