Ogun LGs get N500M Monthly to augument Federal Allocation-Ojuko

The Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, has said that the State Government supports the 20 Local Government Areas and the 37 Local Council Development Areas with the sum of N500m monthly, to enable them function more effectively.

Ojuko, who made this disclosure while fielding questions from the Press in Abeokuta, said the money was part of the fund generated from the revenue harmonisation of the present administration, stating that each Local Government gets the percentage of money generated from their area on monthly basis.

“As a result of paucity of funds facing the country, money coming from the Federal Government is not enough to pay salaries and meet grassroots development projects, hence the State collect the revenue on their behalf and distributes according to the percentage generated from each area”, the Commissioner stated.

He disclosed  further that, as part of government’s efforts to bring governance closer to the people, 37 Local Council Development Areas were created and equipped with personnel, operational tools and take off grants, expressing optimism that the new LCDAs would fulfilled their constitutional responsibilities.

Chief Ojuko commended the traditional rulers for cooperating with the State Government in maintaining peace and tranquillity in their domains, pledging government readiness to raise the standard of traditional institution in the State to enviable height.
