Amosun Charges Security Agencies On Hitch-Free Polls
As the 2019 general elections approach, security agencies in the country have been advised to rise above partisanship by taking steps that would ensure hitch free elections.
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun gave the charge at the International Civil Defence Organisation Day (ICDO), organised by the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abeokuta.
According to the Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, security agencies have crucial roles to play at ensuring security of lives and property of the people before, during and after the elections and not engage in any act that could breach the peace of the country.
‘’As we prepare for the 2019 elections, we will continue to appeal to our security agencies to rise above board and partisan sentiments and remember that it is when we have a country that is peaceful that we can call ours. This country belongs to all of us. I beg of you to please do your very best to ensure that the peace Nigeria is currently enjoying is inviolable,’’ Amosun said.
While commending the NSCDC for the role it is playing in fostering peace and unity in the country, Governor Amosun reiterated that his administration would continue to invest heavily in security, adding that ‘’nothing can thrive in an atmosphere devoid of peace.’’
Amosun described the theme of the event, ‘’Civil Defence and National Institutions for More Efficient Disaster Management,’’ as apt and called on all security agencies to join hands in tackling the various security challenges confronting the country.
Speaking earlier, Commandant, NSCDC, Ogun State Command, Mr. Ayodele Olusola, thanked the State Government for consistently supporting the agency in carrying out its duties.
