Democrat Zahran Mamdani announced his victory as mayor of New York City, becoming the first Muslim to hold this position in the city’s history, during a massive public conference held a short while ago, among his supporters in the Long Island City neighborhood.

In his speech after the announcement of the results, Mamdani was keen to deliver a number of reassuring messages to Muslims as well as to Jews residing in the city in response to the accusations of Trump and his supporters, saying: I know that there are many Muslims in our city, and there will no longer be any fear of Islam. We will eliminate Islamophobia in our city. I also promise you that there will be no anti-Semitism.
Challenging former US President Donald Trump, he added: Trump, you will not be able to stand in front of us. We will stand up to unfair taxes, and work for workers and immigrants. New York will be a city for everyone, and from tonight we will not say goodbye to immigrants.
Democrat Zahran Mamdani warned US President Donald Trump, saying to him: If you, Trump, try to harm one of us, you will harm everyone… We will remain united… I will work day and night to achieve what I promised, and we will make New York a city of stability and justice.
It is noteworthy that Mamdani, 33 years old, ran in the race as a representative of the Democratic Party, defeating Republican Curtis Sliwa (71 years old) and independent Andrew Cuomo (67 years old), who is supported by Trump.
Mamdani is of Indian descent, and was born in Uganda, before immigrating to the United States and obtaining its citizenship in 2018. During his election campaign, he faced pressure and threats, after Trump threatened to stop federal funding for New York if he won.
