During a meeting that was invited to me as personal and professional by the editor -in -chief of Al -Watan newspaper, he brought me together with Dr. Munira Al -Fadil and Brother Khaled Khalaf from the Information and Electronic Government Authority within the team of the “Technical Cadres Development Program”, I was enjoying the interesting technical talk, until I suddenly found myself dive into a pure Bahraini project, which did not take his media right yet, just like the Bahraini diver in search of pearl The sea bottom, without anyone knowing the value of what he collected only after it is properly displayed. Here, in particular, I realized that we are in front of a real technical treasure that only needs those who display it in a bright media interface, with a large painting saying: “This is how the correct training is.”
The dialogue was beautiful, but my thoughts were stuck away, so I immediately reminded the calls that I received from time to time, looking desperate for Bahraini graduates “ready” to the labor market, as if they were asking me to extract a ready pearl from a sea in which no one had been filled before. The problem is not in our youth. Bahrain is always a fertile land for distinguished competencies, but the real problem lies in some universities that graduate students who keep the curricula without understanding, as if they spent their years of studies in learning to swim on sand, without touching their feet with sea water even once.
The memory soon brought me back to my university studies, when I was a representative of the students of the Information Technology College of the Student Council at the fifth session of the University of Bahrain. In those days, the students ‘complaint of practical training was similar to the sailors’ grumbling from winds that were not blowing, leaving their ships stuck in the middle of the sea, without reaching their destination. The student enters the training authority with great enthusiasm, expecting to sail in real technical projects, and he quickly discovers that he is just a “spectator”, who spends the following months, as he watches work from afar, without being allowed to touch something actual, for fear that the place will be drowned in problems because of his lack of experience. After the training ends, the student comes out and he cannot differentiate between the “server” and “switch”, and it may be believed that the “mouse” is a new brand of fresh summer juices!
So, when I heard the name of the program for the first time, I smiled and said to myself sarcastically: “This is an old movie that we have seen before.” But after getting to know the details and watching the results, I was truly surprised: young people enter the program, working on real projects, they make actual decisions, but they may discuss the staff of the commission with great confidence, as if they are experienced experiences for years, not only a few weeks.
The program not only prepared young people technically, but was also keen to develop their communication skills. Yes, that communication that we believed is far from a whole generation who spent most of his life between screens and codes. They were talking fluently, offering their ideas with confidence, and it became completely clear that they are not just “technical beings”, but rather real competencies that deserve the title “Technical Pearls”, provided that the correct training is provided.
So I say to every Bahraini graduate today, this is your golden opportunity, not an additional number in the list of job seekers, but rather a pearl shining in the labor market. Bahrain today does not need more divers who return from the sea with tales without pearls, but rather they need young people who are actually good at extracting the treasures of “Data”.
