Al -Malab newspaper – The former left -back of the Brazilian and Real Madrid Marcelo announced Thursday that he retired from football at the age of 36.
Marcelo posted a video clip on his social media accounts appearing in front of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, the stronghold of Real Madrid.
The former Brazilian international said in the video: “My love for football started from my grandfather, as he wanted to be a professional player, and did everything possible to happen.”
He added: “At the age of 18, Real Madrid knocked on Babi, and I got here, and now I can say it proudly: I am a real Madrid.”
He continued: “Here, besides my wife, I founded my family … 16 seasons, 25 titles, 5 Champions League, and many charming nights in the Bernabeu, what a trip.”
On his representation of the Brazil team, he said: “Playing for my country since the youth categories, it was an honor for me, and in my memory, I will still cherish the two Olympic medals and the Confederations Cup.”
On his return to Fluminness, he said: “That return was a response to religion to the club that gave me a lot, and helped him win three titles, including the Libertadores Cup, and left a legacy for new generations at the Marcelo Vieira stadium.”
Marcelo concluded: “My football career ends here, but I still have a lot to present it to the game,” with the appearance of his son at the end of the clip, in reference to the extension of his legacy in the stadiums through his older son.
Marcelo had started his professional career with Fluminness in 2005 before joining Real Madrid in 2007, and played with the royal club shirt for 16 years in a row, during which he achieved all possible local and continental titles.
After his departure from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, Marcelo briefly joined the Greek club Olympiacos before returning in the year 2023 to Fluminness for a second period.
Marcelo has not played with any team since his departure from Fluminness in November 2024.
