Yuletide: FRSC Deploys 1,700 Personnel For Special Patrol Operations In Ogun
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, has deployed no fewer than 1,700 personnel for special patrol for the yuletide period, to oversee traffic situations on highways across the State.
This was contained in a statement signed by the State Sector Commander, Mr Clement Oladele, and made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Abeokuta, on Monday, that the personnel comprises regular and Special Marshals.
The officers, according to Oladele, are expected to monitor traffic situations on Lagos – Ibadan; Sagamu – Ijebu Ode; Sagamu – Mosinmi – Ikorodu; Abeokuta – Sagamu; Abeokuta – Ibadan; Abeokuta – Ifo – Sango – Ota – Lagos highways, as well as the Ota – Idiroko international corridor.
The Special Patrol operations would commence for Thursday, December 19, 2019 to January 20, 2020.
The Sector Commander said the Special Patrol Operations team would focus on, excessive speed; dangerous driving; wrongful overtaking; lane indiscipline; use of phone while driving; seat belt violation; overloading violation; tyre violation (expired/ substandard) as well as speed limiting device violation; unlatched vehicles violation; child restraint violation; passengers manifest violation by commercial vehicles and use of drugs and intoxicating.
Oladele also added that the Command had established traffic rest area at Mowe; Sagamu; Ogere; Ogunmakin; IJebu – Ode; Itori; Ota and Abeokuta, where tired travellers could briefly rest before continuing their trips.
The FRSC boss added that the Command had also concluded arrangements with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conduct a joint drug test on drivers suspected to have consumed illicit drugs, as well as, those that have consumed intoxicant alcoholic beverages beyond the legally tolerable level.
He also said that eye examinations would be conducted in partnership with the National Optometric Association (NOA), to ensure only drivers with good eye sights are allowed to drive passengers during the yuletide.
