We’ll Build Human Capacity, Promote Professional Ethics ― NIEEE
The newly-inaugurated chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Abeokuta chapter, Olumayowa Idowu, has vowed to improve on the human capacity of the association as well as drive professional ethics in moving the body forward.
Speaking during his inauguration as NIEEE Abeokuta chapters’ third chairman, Idowu stated that the profession, in his tenure, would record turn around in the area of creating value for the good of electrical and electronics engineering as a whole.
He said his tenure will ensure a robust partnership with the Ogun State government, which will usher in the training and professional development of members, among others.
The new chairman said his administration is ready to give priority to capacity building of members, thereby promoting their professional competence, broaden their horizons as well as keep them abreast of daily happenings in the engineering world.
He also listed a number of programmes that will make the workshop and training achievable to include distinguished electrical engineering lecture, power energy summit, broadcasting engineering seminars, regular online technical sessions, informative membership database/networking, welfare and corporate social responsibility.
Idowu disclosed that the chapter had already submitted its application for the hosting right of the 18th International Conference and Exhibition on Power and Telecommunications (ICEPT) 2022.
“Our administration and chapter look forward to hosting all members of NIEEE in October 2022 for the best ever ICEPT in the history of our institute,” he said.
In her speech on the occasion, the General Manager of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Abeokuta, Mrs Funmi Wakama, described Idowu as cerebral.
She commended his passion for the engineering profession, stressing the fact that he has added value to the television station by bringing it into the limelight through modern-day technology.
The event, which held at the Valley View Auditorium, Government House, Isale Igbein, Abeokuta, themed ‘Digital Broadcast: An Imperative in the Digital Age,’ had many dignitaries from the engineering profession, top government functionaries, among others, in attendance.
Guest speaker at the event, Yomi Bolarinwa, said there is the need for broadcasting organisations to embrace digitization as against obsolete and traditional method of analogue transmission.
“Government at all levels, engineering practitioners, private sectors and investors have roles to play in the full digitization of broadcasting in Nigeria.”
In their various goodwill messages, the Ogun State Commissioner for Rural Development, Oludotun Taiwo; the Iyalode of Yorubaland and Egbaland, Iyalode Alaba Lawson; the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabureer Babajide Bakre; three-time past Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) Vice President, Margaret Oguntala; Special Adviser on Water Resources and Energy to the Osun State Governor and NSE Vice President, Adeniran Ibitoye Kilomodemo and the NSCDC Ogun State Commandant, Hammed Abodunrin, all described Idowu as an energetic, young and dynamic professional who is endowed with competence and excellence in steering the ship of the NIEEE, promising to give him and the body needed support.
The event also witnessed the induction of new corporate members of the NIEEE and the inauguration of other executive members of NIEEE, Abeokuta chapter.
