We Are Commited To Teachers’ Training- OGSG

Ogun State Government says it will continue to give priority to the training and retaining of its teachers in primary and post primary schools for efficient and effective service delivery.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Alhaji Sefiu Rasheed, who dropped this hint at a workshop organised by the Ministry for science teachers in public schools across the State, held at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

He noted that the workshop became imperative, as some teachers were still using the outdated methods in teaching, which according to him, does not conform to the new curriculum requirements.

‘’The need for organising workshop on ‘Pedagogy and Didactics’ at this time is apt due to the fact that there are indications that some teachers still rely on the outdated methods, techniques or approaches which they were used to during their training and hardly want to consider other options in accordance with what is being recommended or prescribed in the new curriculum activities’’, he said.

Rasheed who commended the doggedness and commitment of teachers at ensuring that ‘’Ogun Standard’’ was maintained in the State schools, said government was committed to providing essential facilities in schools, to ensure qualitative education for the citizens.

While advising them to be attentive at the training so they could gain and keep abreast with latest trend in the teaching profession, the Permanent Secretary also charged them to extend the knowledge garnered to their colleagues, who could not attend the workshop.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Director, Science and Technology, Alhaja Oluwatosin Oloko, said the method and attitude of teachers have lot of impacts on students, noting that the workshop was intended to develop new teaching skills and methodologies that would meet up with current education standard.
