Programme of Events for Prince Dapo Abiodun’s Inauguration as Governor of Ogun State


On May 29, it will be double celebration for Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governor elect of Ogun state as his inauguration falls on the day he also turns 59.


In commemoration of the two auspicious occasions, several events have been put together by a committee headed by the deputy governor elect, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele.


The governor Elect will take his oath of office at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta; in a ceremony to be presided over by the Chief Justice of the state, Justice Mosunmola Arinola Dipeolu. 


A press release from the Media and Publicity Sub Committee of the Inauguration Committee states that the swearing in ceremony is the high point of a series of events lined up for the inauguration of the incoming administration in the Gateway state.


The scheduled activities will begin on Thursday 23rd May, 2019 with an Inauguration Lecture at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta. The lecture to be chaired by GTB co-founder, Mr Fola Adeola has as subject Good Governance in Public Service and will be delivered by former presidential adviser, Professor Pat Utomi.


Other events slated for the inauguration include a Jummah Service at Ijebu Ode Central Mosque on Friday 24 May; a Cultural Night at June 12 Cultural Centre on Saturday 25th May; and a church service at the Anglican Church Cathedral, Ilaro on Sunday, 26th May.


The Outgoing governor, Senator Ibukunle Amosun will formally hand over his notes to the Governor Elect on Tuesday, 28th May, 2019. The Handover Ceremony is billed to hold at the Governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta at 11am.


After the swearing in ceremony on Wednesday 29th May, an Inauguration Party will be held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta while the Inauguration Ball will hold at OOPL Events Centre, Abeokuta later in the evening. 


The Inauguration ceremonies will be rounded off on Friday 31st May, with Thanksgiving Jummah Service at the Egba Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta and a church service on Sunday 2nd June at Cathedral Church of St Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.


In a statement signed by Modele Sarafa Yusuf- Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the Inauguration, journalists wishing to cover the inauguration programs were enjoined to log on to the inauguration website for accreditation.
