Amosun Mourns Chief Ernest Shonekan, Describes him As A True Nationalist

Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial district, Ibikunle Amosun has mourned the death of former head, Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan who died in Lagos on Tuesday January 11, 2022 at the age of 85

In a statement he personally signed, Senator Amosun said the passage of Chief Ernest Shonekan is a great loss to the people of Ogun State and Nigeria in general. He noted that the late chief Shonekan was a cherished leader and a respected Elder Statesman whose life and times epitomized service to humanity and the nation.

He recalled the crucial roles that Chief Shonekan played during the critical period that he served as the Head of the Interim National Government of Nigeria.

The statement adds that though, Chief Shonekan served briefly, his contributions to national development, unity, cohesion and stability will remain indelible in the annals of our nation.

According to him, Chief Ernest Shonekan would be remembered for his meritorious service at the United African Company of Nigeria (UAC) where he rose through the ranks to attain the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the conglomerate.

With his death, Senator Amosun noted that Egbaland has lost an illustrious son, who was until his demise, the Abese of Egbaland. Ogun State and Nigeria equally lost an inspirational, charismatic, and a selfless leader.

He prayed the good Lord to grant him eternal rest and give the entire Shonekan family, the people of Ogun State and Nigeria, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
