Pre-season: Arsenal thump Sevilla as Man Utd lose to Atletico Madrid

Gabriel Jesus scored a hat-trick on his first appearance at Emirates Stadium as Arsenal beat Sevilla 6-0 in the Emirates Cup.

Eddie Nketiah rounded off the win after a flowing counter-attack move.

Elsewhere, Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Atletico Madrid in Oslo, with Joao Felix scoring late on before a red card for United’s Fred.

In Israel, Paulo Dybala’s corner set up Roger Ibanez to score a header for Roma’s winner as the Italian side beat Tottenham 1-0.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte fielded a strong side against a Roma side managed by Jose Mourinho, with summer signings Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma starting along with forwards Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Defender Clement Lenglet, forward Richarlison and keeper Fraser Forster, who all joined Spurs in the summer, came on during the second half.

Arsenal’s victory over Sevilla ends a successful pre-season campaign, during which Brazilian Jesus scored seven goals after his £45m move from Manchester City.

It was Saka who opened the scoring from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the area, before Jesus doubled the hosts’ lead, firing home Granit Xhaka’s low cross.

He added a third just two minutes later, and Saka matched him before the 20-minute mark, pressing high and finishing well.

Xhaka went close to a fifth before Jesus grabbed his third from close range. Nketiah completed the scoring a minute from time.

There was more frustration for Erik ten Hag as he saw his Manchester United side undone by Portugal’s Felix after 86 minutes at the Ullevaal Stadion. Felix set himself in the area before firing into the bottom corner.

Fred was dismissed in stoppage time for a second bookable offence.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Hakim Ziyech scored as Chelsea beat Udinese 2-0 at the Dacia Arena. A separate Blues side had already beaten the Italian team 3-1 at the same ground on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, Brighton left Manchester City target Marc Cucurella out of their game with his former club Espanyol, after the full-back handed in a transfer request this week.

However, the Seagulls beat the Spanish side 5-1 at home, with Leandro Trossard scoring a hat-trick after goals from Adam Webster and Lewis Dunk.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth were beaten 2-1 by Real Sociedad, with the the Cherries going behind to goals from Mikel Merino and Igor Zubeldia before Junior Stanislas got one back late on.

Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin scored for Newcastle United as they beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1, while Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo grabbed the winner as his side earned a 1-0 victory against Real Betis.

Crystal Palace secured a 4-2 win over Montpellier, with Wilfried Zaha, Odsonne Edouard – who scored two – and Marc Guehi getting the goals for Patrick Vieira’s side.

Southampton’s summer signing Joe Aribo scored a solo goal for the south coast side but could not stop them losing 2-1 to Villarreal.

In France, Aston Villa’s summer signing, defender Diego Carlos, scored a late winner as Steven Gerrard’s side came from a goal down to beat Rennes 2-1.

The Midlands side went behind to a Arthur Theate goal but Leon Bailey equalised before Carlos headed in.

West Ham were held to a goalless draw by Lens, while Wolves took the lead against Sporting Lisbon through a Ruben Neves penalty only for Pedro Goncalves to also score from the spot for the Portuguese side as the game ended 1-1.

Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest gave summer signing Jesse Lingard his first appearance for the club in a 1-1 draw with Valencia.

Forest went behind to a Carlos Soler goal before Brennan Johnson equalised late on.
