Safe Motoring: TRACE targets more Students Ambassador.

To further deepen the idea of safe monitoring among the younger generations, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) is set to enlist school children as ambassadors for its sensitization campaign.

Engaging students on safe motoring tips at Ebenezer Grammar School, Iberekodo, Abeokuta, the Corps Education Officer, Commander Morolake Filani,  said the Corps was raising more traffic oriented and compliant road users among the young ones, to promote compliance and safety of lives.

Commander Filani seized the opportunity to inaugurate TRACE Club in the school, explaining that the Corps took the initiative of ‘’Catching them Young’’ to disabuse the minds of the younger citizens against intakes of hard drugs, alcohol and other harmful substances which could jeopardise their future.

Part of the lessons Filani took the school children was how to inculcate proper use of the zebra crossing marks, yellow lines and other signs while plying the road.

‘’We urge pedestrians who are vulnerable road users to watch the traffic on both sides and cross when it safe to do so, where there are no pedestrian crossings, they should look left, look right and look left again, then cross the road if the road is clear. We have seen thousands of pedestrians death and injuries recorded every year, it is against this backdrop that we advice pedestrians, both young and old to take caution’’, she stated.

While appreciating the Corps for bringing the sensitization programme to the school, the Principal, Mrs. Abiodun Folaji said the students were able to gain a lot from the lecture, expressing optimism that the knowledge would be shared with their peers, relatives and neighbours in their communities.

“The children have been enlightened on how to walk on the road, the side they should maintain and that they should always wear brighter colours while walking at night, for them to be seen clearly by drivers’’, she said.

The principal noted that not only the students benefitted from the lecture, likewise the teachers, saying they look forward to such opportunity again in the nearest future.

Folaji advised the students to always be watchful and careful while crossing the road, warning against playing and walking aimlessly in clusters on roads, desist from putting on earpiece which could distract them from hearing the hooting of oncoming vehicles.
