Ogun State Government has embarked on-the-spot assessment of areas affected by incessant flooding in Isheri Community and environs in Ifo Local Government Area of the State.
The State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who led government’s delegation on the visit to the affected areas, for the purpose of finding lasting solution and bring succour to the residents of the Communities.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele, accompanied by a team of professionals and consultants to Kara and River View Estate in Isheri North Local Council Development Area said, ‘’following the Governor’s visit less than 24 hours to the area, he has raised this team to assess, evaluate and proffer solutions to the challenges”.
The Deputy Governor informed that the team comprised consultants on Works, representatives from Ministries of Environment, Works and Infrastructure, Ogun Osun River Basin Authority, Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC), Town planners , State and National Emergency Management Agencies and others towards ensuring a holistic approach to nip in bud, the menace.
She added that data would be collected from the Geological services department in order to know the volume of water to be rechanneled, just as the assessment would enable government plan for an immediate, short and long term plans, as well as come up with designs and cost implications, which would be sent to the Governor to provide the required funds.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele however assured residents of government’s determination to keep them abreast of its plans as they evolve, saying the present administration was aware of their plights and was determined to address them to ameliorate their sufferings.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Riverview Residents Association, Mr.Abayomi Akinde said the community was willing to partner with the government to address the flooding, noting that the tenacity of the residents had sustained the Estate over the years.
One of the residents of the Estate, Mrs. Joyce Adebisi-Ayilara appreciated the quick intervention of the state government to bring relief to the area.
