As Israel remains under lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission NCPC has commenced airlift of 2,500 pilgrims to the Kingdom of Jordan.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission Reverend Yakubu Pam disclosed this over the weekend at the official flag-off of the 2020 Christian Pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Jordan at Yakubu Gown Airport, Plateau State.

Rev. Pam disclosed that the operation was the first by the Commission to sponsor Christian pilgrims to Jordan thereby making it historic because of the unique role Jordan played in biblical history.

He stated that the choice of Jordan to perform the 2020 pilgrimage became necessary as Isreal is still under lockdown adding that the Commission is still monitoring the development in Israel with the hope that the country will open its doors for the 2021 pilgrimage starting in November to December this year.

” In April, after due consultation with most stakeholders, we visited Jordan on a search of Holy sites and happily enough some major sacred sites were identified.

He said “Apart from hosting River where Jesus Christ was baptised and where He started His earthly ministry, other holy sites abound such as Mount Nebo where Moses stood and had an overview of the promised land before his death.

” Jordan has a thin borderline with Israel and hardly will you differentiate between the two nations that served as a point of convergence for both trade and religious routes in the Middle East.”

The Executive Secretary further pointed out that the Commission has put every security measure in place to check would default and assured that the Commission shall have zero abscondment.
