Mission to Improve Healthcare Unwavering – OGSG.
Towards ensuring that citizens have access to improved healthcare services, Ogun State government has restated its mission to provide new health centres across the State.
The Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, made this known while playing host to the executive members of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, (NAGGMDP), Ogun State Branch, in her Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Salako-Oyedele, who lamented over the state of health centres across the State, noted that it behoved on the government to build a sustainable health system, for improved healthcare of its citizens, saying it was one of the priorities of the present administration.
“We have to look at what will make our health system sustainable. We await the report of the transition committee, study the recommendations and see where to kick start our programmes and polices”, she said.
On the welfare of doctors and other medical personnel, she said the Governor holds workers’ welfare in high esteem, which according to her, would reflect, as the policies of government are being rolled out.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, NAGGMDP, Ogun State Branch, Dr. Olufemi Odulate, who congratulated the Governor and his Deputy for their successful inauguration, expressed the Association’s intention to embrace the vision of the present administration towards giving the people the desired healthcare, pledging to sustain the good relationship between the doctors and the government.
He solicited for improved condition of the General Hospitals in the State, recruitment of more medical personnel and provision of modern equipment for the Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
“We want autonomy as doctors. We also need more House Officers to fill the vacuum of shortage of doctors. In addition, we want our resident training programmes to be standardised’’, he added.
