Olubadan chieftaincy: Ajimobi, Ladoja agree to truce meeting —CCII

CENTRAL body of all Ibadan sons and daughter, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), has waded into the protracted crisis occasioned by the review of Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration, culminating in the coronation of 21 new Obas in August.

Highpoint of the conflict that attended the decision of the state government to mint the new Obas was the gun attack at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, last week Monday.

In a release, the CCII said it had set up a 15-member reconciliation committee to be headed by “a respectable elder of Ibadanland,” to resolve issues arising from crisis following the “new and dangerous dimension introduced to the matter.”

The committee comprised five members from CCII, three each from the Christian and the Muslim communities and four from the Elders Council.

The statement said a four-member visitation panel, earlier raised by CCII had met with Governor Abiola Ajimobi and the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, and others.

The panel, the statement explained, secured the commitment of Governor Ajimobi and Senator Ladoja to attend an “all-inclusive reconciliation meeting as proposed by the committee.”

The panel comprised the retired Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Archbishop Sunday Makinde; the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Alhaji Daud Makanjuola; CCII President General, Chief Adeyemi Soladoye, as well as the Arole Iba Oluyole of Ibadanland, Mogaji Nureni Akanbi.

“CCII called an emergency meeting of key groups in Ibadanland with a view to finding a peaceful and sustainable solution to all the controversies that surround the crowning of 21 new Obas in Ibadanland on August 21.

“In furtherance of this mandate, the panel has held meetings with Governor Ajimobi, the Osi Olubadan, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and the Iyalode of Ibadanland, Alhaja Aminat Abiodun.

“It was also agreed that each of the stakeholders and their followers or political parties (where applicable) will refrain from making any inciting statement that may heat up the delicate situation,” the statement read.
