World Celebrates Ogun Indigenes For Winning International Titles

The recent victory of the Ogun State born world boxing legend, Anthony Joshua who successfully defended his International Boxing Federation’s heavy weight world boxing title and the World Food Prize Laurel presented to the President of African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, another great indigene of the state is an attestation to the outstanding position of the state as pace setter in all spheres of life.

The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga who made this known in an interview with the state’s house correspondents in Abeokuta said that the State had produced many notable citizens who were making the state proud both at home and in Diaspora.

Onanuga in company of eight State Commissioners watched the boxing bounty live at Principality Stadium, Cardiff in United Kingdom with over 380,000 spectators from around the world, disclosing that the State is very proud of his sterling qualities which made him the world heavy weight champion.

Deputy Governor said youths should remain focused, determined and fearless in their attempt to attain a successful height, emphasising the need for redirecting their youthful vigour and potentials from unproductive tendencies to a more productive enterprise so as to achieve their set goals in life.

Anthony Joshua, last Saturday in a widely popularised bout successfully defended his IBF Heavyweight by defeating his main challenger, Carlos Takam in the 10th round at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

In the same vein, the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga has also commended another indigene of the State, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina who was recently awarded the World Food Price Laurel in far away Iowa in the United States.

Onanuga who witnessed the event live said Dr. Adesina, the President of the Africa Development Bank (ADB) and former Minister of Agriculture had great passion for empowering the people especially youths through agriculture.

She eulogised his outstanding performance towards the development of agriculture, noting that his efforts had brought about increase in the global food production.

Deputy Governor said Ogun State was very proud of the achievement and happy to identify with the two heroes for their global successes, assuring that the state would continue to celebrate any indigene that succeeded in their various chosen professions
