We ‘re committed to realistic Budget- Ogun Assembly

Ogun State House of Assembly says, it is irrevocably committed to prioritizing the yearnings and aspirations of the people in the budget process for the actualization of a realistic and achievable financial blueprint to further consolidate on the rebuilding mission in the State.

The Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Victor Fasanya said this in an interview, shortly after concluding the 2019 budget defence for all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Fasanya while urging all MDAs of Government in the State to be committed to achieving their budgetary proposals, said this could only be possible if due consideration was accorded to the needs of the people, assuring of the speedy passage of the Appropriation bill before the end of the outgoing year.

According to him, the State House of Assembly was noted for being thorough, responsible and responsive in all its activities, including budget process, explaining that the early passage of the Appropriation bill was part of the Assembly’s tradition toward ensuring the timely implementation of the budget with a view to ensuring the delivery of more democratic dividends to the people.

The Lawmaker, who explained that the legislators were empowered to carryout oversight visit anytime of the year, said the Committee had invited some agencies to make their budget proposal comply with the international standards through quality service delivery, to the teeming populace of the State next year.

Earlier while defending the budget estimate of her Ministry, the State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Ms. Aderenle Adesina, said the State would further be repositioned to attract more developmental partners through effective resource utilization and management.

The step she noted would help promote transparency and accountability in the income and expenditure of the State government, for effective and efficient financial system, to make the State a reference point in planning, budget management and due process.

To achieve the foregoing, Adenrele proposed a total budget of N2.06bn for 2019, explaining that out of the amount, the sum of N1.5bn was to be spent on capital projects and N560m on recurrent expenditure, with N3m expected as revenue in the next fiscal year.
