Insecurity: AGSOBA Urges FG To Intensify More Effort To End Abduction In Schools

The President General of Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys Association (AGSOBA), Hon Lanre Laoshe, has advised the Federal Government to intensify more effort in securing all schools, in view of the incessant abduction of pupils and students across the country, especially in the Northern region.

Laoshe stated this while addressing newsmen as part of activities to mark the 113th Founders’ Day Anniversary of the school, held at the School Hall, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, on Tuesday.

He expressed displeasure over the state of insecurity in the county, regretting that schools in the nation are no longer safe for students.

The President General equally called on Nigerian citizens to join forces with the Federal Government in combating insecurity.

Laoshe, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts and commitment so far to bring insecurity to an abrupt end in the nation, urging him to do more.

He said: “We are appealing to the Federal Government not to rest on its oars in combating insecurity, enough of the incessant kidnappings in our country. Out children are afraid of going to school and parents are afraid of sending their children to school all because of the insecurity situation posting threat to our peace and tranquillity.

“We must commend President Muhammadu Buhari led administration for its efforts to combat the narrative but there is need for him to do more in making sure that victory is won over insecurity in the country.”

AGSOBA President also urged the Federal Government to improve on the educational sector, stressing that government is not doing enough while asking parents to play their roles by counselling their wards against involvement in cultism.

“As you all know, discipline and training of the child start from home, if there is decadence we have to start from the parents, there is very little the teacher can do because he/she has a job to teach, to teach students in academics and there is so much volume of things to learn, that the parents to do more, to give instructions to their children at home, the default comes from the parents not the teachers in School or the Old students’ associations.

”In my opinion, it is the parents that have failed in their duties, not the teachers in school and not the old student Association,” he concluded.
