NSE awards scholarships to 16 UTME candidates

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has awarded scholarships to 16 candidates who emerged the best in the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The President of NSE, Engr. Babagana Mohammed, FNSE who unveiled the candidates in Lagos, said the 16 candidates would enjoy a five-year scholarship after being offered admission to study engineering courses.

He said it was the initiative of the society “to support, inspire, promote and indeed remove the barriers to a knowledge and skills driven society. This serves as a positive example of what needs to be done by a highly regarded and well respected society like ours.”

Borno State Governor, Engr. Prof. Babagana Zulum, who joined the meeting virtually alongside other stakeholders tasked NSE and other stakeholders to work towards strengthening the engineering education system to train students towards becoming self-employed.

Zulum promised to domesticate the awards in his state to promote the study of engineering.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, whose remarks were read by the Director of Test Administration, Dr. Yusuf Lawal, said JAMB supported NSE towards strengthening the engineering profession.
