COVID-19: NSE Abeokuta Donates  Handwash Machine to OGSG

   
As a further effort in responding to the prevailing challenges of the times, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Abeokuta branch has also donated a mobile foot operated hand wash machine to the State Government today 7th August, 2020. The donation was aimed at supporting the state government towards flattening the curve  COVID – 19 curve by curbing the community spread through regular hand washing and other good hygiene practices.
In his remarks, the Abeokuta Chairman of the Nigeria Society Engineers (NSE), Engr. Dr. Olanrewaju Apampa, FNSE commended the state government’s deft handling of the fight against the pandemic, and noted that, the NSE also identified with the fight against the pandemic during the total lockdown phase, by donating the sum of one million naira to support the State government.
He added that as a further contribution, NSE Abeokuta is now presenting a mobile foot operated hand wash device, fabricated by graduate engineers of the State’s owned tertiary Institutions.
In her remarks, the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele said that the coronavirus pandemic has taught Nigeria and other countries of the world to think outside the box in developing machines and other Personal Protective Equipment, (PPE), in safeguarding its citizens due to the closure of borders which has made importation worldwide impossible.
‘’We are all aware of the community spread of the disease which is caused by touching of eyes and noses with infected hands, hence the need to take proactive measures, while trying to get everybody back to their normal activities such, reopening of education facilities, commercial activities, religious worship and social engagements. Hand washing has continued to be the best way to curb the spread of the virus’’ she said
The Deputy Governor expressed appreciation to the Abeokuta  Branch of the NSE and commended their efforts in the fabrication of hand wash device, calling it a worthy effort that should be scaled up particularly by those in the manufacturing sector, so that even if borders become open to imports, the machine would remain competitive in price and quality.
The machine was fabricated by graduate members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, who are graduates of the State’s tertiary Institutions –  Mr Ayinla Ahmed of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and Miss Simbiat Odeniyi of Olabisi Onabanjo University.
