COREN inaugurates expatriates monitoring committees at States and Federal level

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria has announced the inauguration of a National Expatriate Monitoring Committee that will monitor the activities of expatriates at the Federal Government level.

It also announced the inauguration of State Expatriate Monitoring Committees in some states, adding that the teams would monitor the activities of the foreign nationals at the state levels.

COREN further disclosed in Abuja on Sunday that a total of 1,610 expatriates were now operating in Nigeria, adding that their activities would be monitored by both the national and state committees.

The council’s President, Ali Rabiu, told journalists that the committees would ensure that the expatriates carry out their operations in Nigeria in accordance with the law and based on international standard practice.

Rabiu, who disclosed this while speaking on the outcome of the 2020 third quarter council meeting of COREN, said an Engineering Regulations Monitoring Department was established to effectively monitor not just expatriates but also other engineering practitioners.

He said, “ERM operations necessitated the inauguration of a National Technical Committee and a National Expatriate Monitoring Committee. This is being replicated at the state level in all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The Nasarawa State Technical Committee and State Expatriate Monitoring Committee have also been inaugurated.” He added,

“Fifteen states have forwarded their nominations and they include Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Kwara, Edo, Adamawa, Jigawa, Oyo, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Akwa Ibom, Delta and Rivers.
