Ajimobi Unites Oyo APC Splinter Groups

The drive towards a united All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state continued on Wednesday, as leaders of two splinter groups, Ajimobi Legacy Forum and Unity Forum resolved to henceforth work together for the peace, unity and progress of the party.

Wednesday’s meeting held at Premier Hotel, Ibadan, was at the instance of the wife of the former Oyo governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi who demanded the leaders of the two groups to settle their differences.

While the Ajimobi Legacy Forum comprises loyalists of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the Unity Forum consists of members of APC that fell out with Ajimobi during his eight-year tenure and loyalists of former governor of the state, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina.

The meeting, which was co-chaired by chieftains of the party, Chief Kunle Sanda, and Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi, had in attendance former Minister of Communication, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, former deputy governor of the state, Otunba Moses Adeyemo, Chairman, National Communication Commission (NCC), Prof Adeolu Akande, Chairman, National Lottery Regulatory Commission(NLRC), Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle; Honourable Gbenga Ariba, Mr Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, among others.

Various speakers at the event stressed that they had learnt their lessons of working at cross purposes a hard way and had resolved to correct the situation with a view to winning the 2023 governorship election in the state.

While Senator Olufemi Lanlehin said the healing process of the Oyo APC had begun, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle said just like the APC took the government from an incumbent in the past, it will do the same in the 2023 election.

On his part, Senator Ayoade Adeseun said progressivism had returned and that all party members must work as brothers and sisters, while Adebayo Shittu stressed that democratic principles must guide the party’s activities henceforth so that the party does not repeat its mistakes of the past.

Speaking, Professor Adeolu Akande averred that no fewer than 80 per cent of progressives attended the meeting and were committed to the unity of the party, while Abass-Aleshinloye said the party was one big united and peaceful family.

A communiqué read at the end of the meeting by Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi mandated all members of the party to henceforth collapse their meetings into one, at all levels.

The communiqué further asserted party members resolve to bury their differences and work assiduously for the victory of the party at all levels in the 2023 general election.

Also, the meeting affirmed support for President Muhammadu Buhari-led government while resolving to sustain the legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Bola Ige, Alhaji Lam Adesina and Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
