Embrace Change Process for Better Performance, LG Chieftains urged

The need to embrace change, as a principal agent in local government administration for effective performance, has been brought to the fore at an interactive session organised for local government chieftains across the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

Shedding light on the topic ” Organisational Development through Effective Change Management and IGR Generation,’’ at the event put together by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in conjunction with Real Grip International at DLK Events Centre, Abiola Way, Abeokuta, the guest speaker, Dr. Femi Jemilohun, pointed out that there was need to equip the right people with requisite skills in order to bring about the right changes in a planned and systematic fashion.

He said effective implementation of new methods and processes in an organization would bring about efficient performance; as it would enable the workforce understand the nitty-gritty of the change process for a unified organization.

Jemilohun submitted that in order to achieve an effective change, both the management and leaders must be accountable and ensure that the right people who understand the need for change to achieve a unified organisation, were engaged to run the affairs, as change management strategy was about choosing and implementing activities that would enhance long term performance of any organization.

Speaking extensively on ‘’Functions of Local Government Administration and its Functionaries vis a vis Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Local Governments’ Strategies,’’ the second speaker, Barr. Ade Akinbosade expressed dissatisfaction with the non-challant attitudes of local government staff towards IGR generation and the mechanism of revenue collection, which he said, was fraught with problem of accountability.

In his remarks, The Secretary, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Hon. Kazeem Olagoke, appreciated the State government for organising the programme, noting that, it has widen their horizons, as well as exposed them to financial management skills and unconventional mode of generating revenue for the councils .

Speaking in the same vein, the Vice  Chairman, Leguru Local Council Development Area, Hon. Sesan Tijani, noted that the session had opened their eyes to new ways of generating IGR, as well as how to embrace, apply and use change to impart positively on local government administration.

Earlier in his welcome address, Principal Consultant, Real Grip International, Engr. Segun Ogunlaja, stated that Change in business environment had become a way of life, as advancement in technology and globalization are necessary techniques required for organizational survival.
