Abiodun Tasks Clerics To Preach On Social Values To Evolve Better Society

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has called on religious leaders in the state to play their part towards ensuring a better society through their messages on the pulpit.

Abiodun made this call during the first session of the 16th Synod of the Egba Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) held in Abeokuta, with the theme, ‘Thou Shall Have No Other God, But Me’.

He bemoaned the quest by the younger generation for material things and the desecration of societal values, noting the development has been of great concern to his administration.

Governor Abiodun while noting that the society in recent times had witnessed challenges in its polity at all levels, said that tackling the challenges should be seen as an important duty to all and sundry.

“The quest for materialism and the desecration of societal values should be of great concern to any leader, be it political or religious. I therefore enjoin our religious leaders in the state to intensify the preaching of the words of God to their congregation in order to have a better social structured society,” he said.

He also called on the people to support the government at all levels to tackle the challenges, charging them to support political leaders with prayers and also discharge their obligations to the government at all levels.

While noting that his administration would continue to provide a conducive atmosphere that would ensure individual prosperity and spiritual growth for the people of the state, Abiodun added that his administration had in the last three years constructed over 400 kilometers of road across the state.

He informed the congregation that the agro cargo airport being constructed by his administration in the state and set to be commissioned in December, 2022, would serve as a passenger airport.

The governor who also called for the support of stakeholders in the development of the state, declared that the development of the state is a joint responsibility.

On the state of waste collection in Abeokuta metropolis, Abiodun assured the people that the delay in waste collection in the state capital would soon be a thing of the past, as government was working round the clock to find a lasting solution to the issue.

In his remarks, the Bishop of Egba Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev’d. (Dr.) Emmanuel Oludaisi Adekunle, while commending Governor Abiodun for his midas touch since his assumption of office, said the governor is fulfilling the promises he made during campaigns in 2019.
